My work is about hybrid animals. I love how animals convey emotion; it is expressed purely and honestly, un-shrouded by social manners or expectations. Through my sculptures I aim to convey characteristics and recognisable qualities of several different animals, from Dragonflies to Elephants, Dinosaurs to Chickens. Fused together, they create a hybrid.
I choose to work with clay as it can be a versatile yet unforgiving medium. It is extremely important to me, that when working with clay, I work hands on. The ability to mould, shape, add and remove reminds me of Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution as suggested in ‘On the Origin of the Species’.
