I respond to site, creating costumes made out of materials that are in-keeping with the surroundings in which they are performed, as a sort of camouflage. The object takes on an absurd role that attempts to integrate the wearer into location, and yet with no clear function, is so obviously out of place. The work examines the nature of design- something made and tailored for a specific function, to fulfil a requirement, and the nature of performance. An exploration of how the object and the individual relate to an environment, both formally and socially, the original and specific site is integral to the work. The film (1hour 22min) is documentation from the most recent performance from this body of work- Zippos travelling circus.
