Sam Van-De-Peer

BA (Hons) Graphic Design

Born 16.08.1988 in UK, Sam can barely be considered British. Having moved around with his parents to Germany, Canada and Africa he has had to adapt to different cultures and lifestyles. This has had a major impact on his education and eventually his visual work. The digital environment is the only place which has been is his life consistently, and is where he chooses to focus his attention. His work in the third year has been directed towards the interpretation and presentation of raw data.

The following installation is the outcome of the re-representation of raw data. Each folding paper ‘flexagon’ represents a 1% drop of 25%, of BP’s share value after the oil leak off the Gulf coast. The declining share values are printed on a polymer paper – preventing the ink from drying. As the paper units are interacted with, the user leaves their inky finger prints all over the paper – leaving a personally identifiable mess. When the ‘flexagons’ are all aligned they reveal an almost unrecognisable QR code of BP’s customer service page.
