This course encourages an experimental, research-based approach to photography asking students to explore the boundaries of the medium and engage with current photographic discourse. As one of the five fine art courses at Camberwell the broader context of contemporary fine art practice provides the point from which the students investigate the possibilities for the medium in the 21st Century.
This year the work in the exhibition is challenging. Challenging in the best sense of the word. Ubiquitous as a medium photography can sometimes be the most undemanding form of image making for the viewer. In contrast to that approach the work in this show reveals a deeper enquiry. It invites and expects the viewer to engage with the way the image is made and in turn work through the ideas that underpin these artists’ practices. This year the work is particularly strong and diverse The show provides an exciting view of the possibilities of photography revealing the energy and intelligence in the 2010 cohort of graduating students.
